The Bertsozale Elkartea Association has published a report on bertsolaris seats and sessions in 2022, analysing gender and intergenerality imbalances.

The Bertsozale Elkartea Association has put a gender perspective in the forefront, as in 2019 64% of the bertsolaris in the plaza were men and 36% women. Currently, 53 per cent of bertsolaris are men and 47 per cent women. According to Berria, Oier Iurramendi, the promoter of the promotion of the Bertsozale Association, believes that the participation of women and men is being balanced. It should be noted that in 2022 the Bertsozale Elkartea Association organized 1,069 sessions in the plazas and that the rest of the activities were 1,969.

The situation of the championships is different, as last year 66.3% were men. The situation between 2019 and 2021 was even more uneven, with 73% men. On the contrary, the Bertsolari Txapelketa Nagusia marked a milestone, as more women are the referents of the youngest than before.

As for intergenerality, Iurramendi says it is quite balanced. Although most children under 10 and over 20 are men, the majority of those aged 10 to 20 are women for the first time.
