The Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa states that the Government’s renewable plan could damage threatened species
  • In addition to social agents and municipalities, the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa has not seen the CAPV Territorial Renewable Energy Plan with good eyes. According to him, threatened species regularly use the sites where wind is intended to be installed.

The Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa has not seen the CAPV's Territorial Renewable Energy Plan with good eyes either, affecting threatened species such as Alimoche, Buitre Leonado or Milano Real. “According to the information provided, these species regularly use the areas proposed for wind projects, so threatened species risk losing the quality of their habitats,” explains the recent study conducted by the Basafaunas and Basaflores Service of the Provincial Council.

A number of social partners have rejected the plan and launched various initiatives, including a total of 4,000 allegations and a rally on Thursday in front of the Basque Government’s headquarters in Vitoria-Gasteiz. One of them is Euskal Herria Bizirik, who warns that it will cause damage to biodiversity. Moreover, the PTS is “opposed” to the Gipuzkoa Energy Sustainability Plan by 2050. In short, he explains that he follows the new model established in Spain, which prioritizes macroprojects of industrial production or large-scale constructions.
