The historic race started in 1919 and since 1979 thousands of corridors have travelled every year from the Behobia to San Sebastian. After 30 years, by 2020 the race will be broken by the virus. Last year the race celebrated its centenary.

The Fortuna Sports Club has warned that they have already drawn up a plan to adapt to the career situation, but they have acknowledged that the evolution of the pandemic has too many variables to cope with. They claim that ensuring the health of participants, volunteers, health workers and spectators is beyond their reach. Thousands of athletes participate in the race. In the 2019 edition, 33,440 people were registered.

Runners already registered have been offered three options: leave the registration for the 2021 or 2022 race; return the registration price (minus 6 euros of management fees); and donate the total or part of the registration to the Club Deportivo Fortuna.

The paper points out that the association is suffering the most difficult moment it has had in a century, to the point of questioning the succession. The Club Deportivo Fortuna de Donostia-San Sebastián takes advantage of the income obtained in the organization of the Behobia-San Sebastián in order to develop various sports disciplines.
