- D. Barinaga refuses to draw up a concession act because it does not comply with the mandate of the TEU. If the PNV does not submit the application, the PP will get the mayor in the village of Rioja Alavesa. This is one of the conditions that the PP has put in for Gasteiz to avoid EH Bildu and support a government such as the PSE-PNV.
“The resignation is because the objectives have changed. At first the objectives were some and now the opposite. The order we received from Araba Buru Batzar is not to present candidates in plenary. As I do not share this, it is logical to do without and present the resignation, and that is what I have done.” Barinaga has been very clear to the ETB chambers. He also explained in the Basque Country: “Yesterday I got a call and I got that request. We were preparing the mandate, but we are in a party and there are decisions above us.”
Important movement towards the mayor of Vitoria
It is an important movement that ABB has done, preventing the submission of the candidacy to the mayor of Barinaga. In Vitoria the PSE and the PNV want to form a municipal government, giving the mayor to Maider Etxebarria of the PSE, and leaving aside Rocío Vite, who was the most voted force of EH Bildu. But they need PP support to achieve the goal. The PP publicly stated that the condition to support the PSE and the PNV in Vitoria was to access the mayor's office in the localities of Laguardia and Labastida de Rioja Alavesa. The most voted party in both countries has been the PP and the second force the PNV; EH Bildu announced that he would support the PNV candidate to avoid the PP governments in Laguardia and Labastida, so the PP has asked him not to present candidates for the PNV.
Earlier this week, Algerian PP president Iñaki Oiarzabal said he was negotiating with the PNV, but the PNV denied it.
