The Amarratz Surf Group criticizes new access signals to Barrika flysch
  • Barrika’s Amarratz Surfing Group has released a statement on its Facebook account on the occasion of the placement of signals that indicate the way to reach the flysch of Barrika. "We do not believe or ever believe in this absurd and unsustainable tourism model, which wants to promote something that nobody cares about," said, among others, in the text signed by the president of the association, Niko Vázquez López de Guereñu.

The road to flysch "is absurd for us, as surfers, that we are regular users of Barrika. In fact, they have stressed that the beach access stairs are in a deplorable situation (several photos have been published along with the letter) and that the City Hall has been informed on several occasions without the City Council responding.

The City Hall is accused of neglecting the maintenance of the stairs to the most common users and is now accused of "wanting to promote the area without any criteria". "We are also going to take action," they added, "we join what happens in San Juan de Gaztelugatxe," he added. As they have announced, they will fight "for a sustainable and environmentally friendly tourism model".

The paper was defended by the mayor of Barrika, Juan José Ezpeleta, on the same Facebook page of Amarratzen, among others, strongly criticizing the political decisions that have made the beach "forgotten". Ezpeleta, a member of the iBarrika command that was established today, was a member of this force in the previous legislature and was part of EiTB.
