They manage to stop the eviction of a Barañáin family
  • After months of struggle to stop the eviction and obtain the social rent that SAREB intended to perform, Haritu Elkarlaguntza has announced that “thanks to the mobilization, the social pressure and the organization” a social rental for this family member has been achieved.

The SAREB, or “bad bank”, is a company created by the Government of Spain in the context of the economic crisis of 2008, to redirect bank accounts. Over these months, the Haritu Housing Union and the “Barañain without eviction” platform have denced the situation of this family together with more collectives and neighbors of Barañáin. “While banks, vulture funds and renationalists take advantage of the rental market business, paying rent is the main reason for impoverishing the working class. In addition, institutions have no capacity to guarantee any dignified alternative, and many people look from day to day on the street, without real residential alternatives,” Haritu said in a note.

Haritu Elkarlaguntza has assured that it will continue to “stop evictions and fight for the de-commodification of housing”, convinced that it is “the only way to achieve universal access to housing”.

“In these small victories you can see the nicest part of the organization, of class solidarity and of mutual help, which is worth fighting!” they say.
