Regardless of the changes we have to make in our daily lives and habits, if we widen our view, we realize that not all the water consumption of individuals reaches 10% of the water used in the world.

Most of the water is wasted by agriculture and industry. The same applies to waste: household waste accounts for only 10%. Some environmentalists have criticized the recent message (from the Al Gore documentary thread) that ecology is in the hands of individuals. This message is to divert attention so that ordinary people do not see that industry and large infrastructures have the most damaging impact on this world.

One may choose to use as little plastic as possible when making purchases, but in reality only obstacles will be imposed on whoever makes this choice. They don't deliver plastic sacks anymore at the toll booths? It's a fake. How Many Products Do We Buy? And all the plastic that we don't take home, but that they use in the supermarket in front of our eyes?

You could decide to give up the car and use public transport or a bicycle. But what to do if public institutions restrict public transport, if walking by bus or train is an adventure, or if there is often no way to do it?

If urban policies are designed for the car, while the roads for bicycles are scarce and bad, who is responsible?

In the same way, when the authorities responsible for language policy say that the future of the Basque language is in the hands of users and needs the support of citizens, we are subject to the same philosophy.

In order for the Basque language to survive, it must be used by the Basques.

However, when cultural policies do not sufficiently support Basque creation, when the Basque media are not sufficiently supported, when the language of public life is Spanish or French, it does not help to give prestige to the Basque language.

It becomes more accessible and “attractive” in the middle. To the detriment of Euskara. But it is said that the responsibility lies with the individual, that individual who is condemned to live in a midday world.

In regions surrounded by highways, where public transport is too restricted, it is more attractive and comfortable to use a car. It could give more pleasure to ride the bus... if the service were of quality. In contrast, automotive ads sell “driving pleasure.” Being on the bus has no prestige and almost no one wants to use it.

In a country where Erdara has every right and wide means, where we can still have a bad answer for speaking Basque in the administration of the Basque Country, to become an official of Navarre, where being Basque is punished, in a country where Basque still has a negligible public presence in the Basque Country, how will people be encouraged to live in Basque?

Like ecology, Basque needs politics.

The decisions of those who have power. That those who have economic or political power throw the health of the world and/or of the Basque language at the expense of individuals, is to mock the people, to make the citizens feel unjustly favored, and not to assume the real responsibility and responsibility that they have. And, in particular, what they achieve with this attitude is not to solve the problem.
