Azpeitia to host the Bertso Eguna 2023
  • The Bertso Eguna 2023 will be held on 28 January in Azpeitia. As before the pandemic, the Bertsolaris Fans Association will organize a full day plan. They will give more details soon.

The Bertsolaris National Championship still has a way to go, but the Bertsozale Elkartea Association has begun to prepare the usual quote from the beginning of the year: 2023 will also host the Bertso Eguna, to be held on 28 January. The Bertso Eguna has been touring since 2018, it is moved annually and 2023 is held in Azpeitia. It will be assisted by the Azpeitia City Council and various associations of the municipality.

We are organizing an all-day plan, as we used to do before the pandemic. At 11:30 he will meet and a poteo will be made through the streets, with open performances by bertsolaris. Then, at 14:30, breezes will be eaten in different associations: In the Oilo Soro, Zulo Zabal, Ziripot, Oilagorra and Txalintxo associations. In addition, in each one of them, and in a manner satisfactory to all tastes, different types of bertsos will be offered: free sessions, musicated sessions of bertsos or with themes and verses. In the afternoon there will be poteo and at 21:00 a dinner will be offered at the Food Center. The act of bertsolaris will take place in the same Elikune.

Later on the evening bertsos and the dinner act, as well as the names of the bertsolaris, will be announced. Also, tickets for these sessions of the Bertso Eguna will be offered for sale before the end of the year.

Since 2018 throughout the Basque Country

In 1968, the precursor of the current Bertso Eguna began to be organized. At first it was called Bertsolari Eguna and it was the day of homage to several bertsolaris of the time. In 1987 Bertsozale Elkartea was responsible for its organization, in collaboration with the City Hall of San Sebastian. In 1995, the tone of tribute was omitted and the name changed, becoming Bertso Eguna.

It was held in San Sebastian for many years, and after the court of 2017 and from 2018 it is a traveling project that moves throughout the Basque Country, in line with the basic objectives of the Bertsozale Association: to influence the whole country. While in 2021 and 2022 the pandemic changed the date and manner of doing so, we were able to celebrate the Bertso Egunak. By 2023 it is intended to return to January and all day
