Launch a campaign to work in self-consumption orchards
  • In these days of confinement, the question has arisen as to whether one can go to work in self-consumption orchards. “Orchards are interpreting the norms as a space of leisure and entertainment, regardless of their social and territorial repercussions.” A collection of signatures has been initiated to authorise works in the orchard.

The Uliako Lore-Baratzak association has launched the campaign to ask the administration to allow the work of the vegetable garden to be carried out and to purchase plants and seeds, among other things. “The crisis does not slow down the rhythms of nature and, therefore, the works of these orchards must continue to be carried out,” the claim states.

As well as being the most direct way to get a fresh product, they have pointed out that self-consumption orchards are a key element for the domestic economy of many. “In these times of economic uncertainty, orchards will be more necessary than ever”

In this regard, they have stressed that it is very important that in the coming weeks the summer orchard can be cultivated and that the certainty of future harvests will reduce the vulnerability of the population. In addition, they argue that it is much safer to go to the garden complying with health measures than to supermarkets.

Orchards are one of the pillars of food sovereignty, as well as the most important foundations of biodiversity.
