"This year I didn't feel the obligation or ambition to win the txapela"
  • Maialen Lujanbio has achieved for the third time the txapela of Euskal Herria in the final bertsos held on December 18 at the Nafarroa Arena in Pamplona. The veteran of the championship has already mentioned a final full of changes, both because of the team’s composition, their personal feeling and their place. Like the number of berets, he has played for the third time singing with bertsolari Amets Arzallus in the head, as the hendaye said, “that day that goes beyond the verse.” Hernaniarra has dared to sing on different social and political issues, echoing the rise of fascism, the exploitation of working women, homophobia or the prospects for future struggle. The champion shared the sensations and perspectives of the older ones.

You don't have your first ending, you're already used to the exercise. But how did you feel at the end of this year?

It is true that sometimes I have had to walk like against the current, with my ancestry and my casualties, but I believe that in the end I have managed to sing in a more tuned situation. In short, it is a satisfaction to dress the txapela again. Inside I feel a desire and a debt to the team members. I would also like to mention the magnificent specimens that have been left during the session and during the championship. It is true that even after the sitting I speak with a lack of perspective, but in general I would say that it was a job this year.

According to the statistics, the one who qualifies correctly in the final, that is, the one who enters as champion of the last edition, does not get the txapela. Have you done a special mentalizing job before this day comes?

I knew that the final would be difficult, especially because of the corset imposed by the format and format of the competition. It is true that it is difficult to mentalize, but with my experiences and the trajectory of the championship I do another reading, and I think you learn to be also in the championship. For example, the first and the latter acquire a different meaning. This year I did not feel the obligation or the ambition to win the txapela. It is true that in other times I have been able to feel that desire and that passion. But today I didn't feel that terrible hunger.

You mentioned in your initial greeting that the changes always come later than desired in the championship. It is true that the end of this year has been historic for the place, because it has gone from Barakaldo to Pamplona, but above all for the first time, because more women have entered the final.

Yes, of course, it has changed. Above all, I believe that the meaning of the final has changed, including the particularities mentioned. If not, also to refer to the changes in the end of nirekia, it is true that this team composition, current time or my personal trajectory have changed the context in which I lived the end. I believe, therefore, that it has enabled me to live this last phase with more peace of mind. I don't want to devalue the end, but I've lived this day with another perspective, partly by experience and age.
