Irun educational centers denounce that the problems of the previous course are maintained
  • The Irungo Hezkuntza Plazara initiative has denounced the lack of teachers, serious problems in the facilities and awaiting the promised tents, the situation of public centres and the attitude of the administration: “The Basque Government and the City Hall have not kept their word. They're doing it late and wrong."

The initiative, which brings together representatives from public schools in Irun, highlights that more than 20 teachers have arrived late in the schools, many students have been without a tutor and many teacher substitutions have not been met. “The management of the education department has been shameful.”

They have also underlined the serious problems encountered on the premises, those already existing and those that have aggravated the pandemic situation. “Due to the lack of space in some schools in Irun, students eat in the library or in the classrooms.”

The “tents opened by the City of Irun at the four winds” are not yet in place. At the end of last year they were assured that they were going to be placed, but it has already been September and in the courtyard they do not have the centers.

Having met with the Administration to pass on their complaints, they have ensured that they will continue to mobilize the educational community should the situation continue. The next open meeting will be on 20 October, in the Palmera Montero space.

From diagnosis to action

The Plaza de la Educación de Irun last year carried out a diagnosis of the educational centers, based on a questionnaire answered by almost a thousand educators, family members and workers from eighteen schools in the city. Afterwards, they went to the City Hall, asking that each person assume his or her responsibilities. Irun’s educational community continues to fight to improve the reality of schools.
