We recover Basque money from abroad
  • The following official information has been transferred from the Provincial Council of Bizkaia: Over 11,000 citizens have accounts abroad of some EUR 1.5 billion distributed in more than 50 countries, including Andorra, Bahamas, Jersey, the Cayman Islands and Panama. In Switzerland alone, there are about EUR 600 million. Over 400 Biscayan taxpayers have their accounts opened in the United States and 250 properties are in the name of Biscayan abroad.

We do not know the official data of the rest of the territories of the Basque Country. It follows from Bizkaia that Basque money in foreign deposits can exceed EUR 3 billion.

In this way, the Basque tax authorities should carry out an inspection of each of these accounts and buildings, which already have very relevant data, and prosecute those who are part of a tax fraud. In turn, this situation requires great transparency. The Basque society should also know the names of the people and of the societies that defraud these people.

When any taxpayer hides some economic data in his statement, they tend to go behind him. Let us hope that the same magnifying glass will be installed in these current accounts and Basque property abroad. And above all, no one is going to have to resort to fiscal amnesty. Complementing low pensions, reducing poverty, eradicating inequality, improving our headquarters, maintaining solidarity policies… all of this needs funding. That disappointed and recovered money will also be welcome.
