The Palestinian Prisoners Commission will launch a “national project” to end the administrative detention regime, and all prisoners in this situation (1,014) announce an indefinite hunger strike from 18 June. Indeed, according to the newspaper Berria, they will also claim that Israel respects international humanitarian law.
Such a regime is detention without trial. There may be years without any charges against them. Consequently, anyone who can be considered "terrorist" by the authorities can be imprisoned. A month ago, for example, a political prisoner who had been in administrative prison for years died on hunger strike, causing many protests against this regime again.
On the other hand, the prisoners call on the Palestinian National Authority to move in its favour and to use all diplomatic channels that may create pressure. According to Addemeer, the Palestine Prisoners Rights Association, there are 4,900 prisoners in Israeli jails, 155 minors and 32 women.
The Prisoners Committee has called on the parties, resistance, institutions and society to protect their cause, and considers it essential to “face the occupation” through the creation of a safety net. It also invites Palestinians living abroad to participate in the protest.
