Justice for Asier! No more machistan aggressions! The relatives of Asier Fog have concentrated in Donostia-San Sebastian under the motto 'Don't miss out'. It is three years since the death of the 28-year-old in Urnieta due to a man's blow to his head, and in the concentration "justice" has been demanded.
The aggression took place during the Aste Nagusia of San Sebastian in 2018, in the Old Part of Donostiarra. Fog was talking to a woman on Perujuantxo Street, when her wife's former partner approached "for jealousy" and hit her head hard. As a result, he fell to the ground without knowledge, but the aggressor wanted to continue beating Fog, which was intercepted by those around him and who tried to revive him. He was admitted to the ICU in a severe state and died after two months in a coma.
Victim of male violence
The aggressor was sentenced last December by the Provincial Court of Gipuzkoa to 12 years and 11 months in jail for a gender-aggravated murder crime. In June, the High Court of Justice of the Basque Country (TSJPV) lowered the sentence to 11.5 years, eliminating the aggravating gender. The court argued that for machista violence to occur it is necessary for the victim to be a woman.
The family of Asier Fog has denounced this resolution as "unfair and discriminatory" and said that two weeks ago they lodged an appeal of unconstitutionality before the court. Both the family and the Urnieta City Council, from the beginning of the trial, requested that the man be considered a victim of male violence and for this purpose they proposed to modify the law.
