The Spanish Observatory of the Unit, due to its situation of dependency, has published a series of data that allows the number of people served last year to be compared with that of those cared for. According to data from the Basque Government, in Hego Euskal Herria 2,386 people have lost their lives last year due to lack of medical care. In Álava, Bizkaia and Gipuzkoa, 2,235 people died and 151 died in Navarra.
In addition, in 2021 there was a decrease in the number of people cared for in Álava, Bizkaia and Gipuzkoa. In fact, in 2020, 65,757 people received care because of their dependence, compared with 65,741 in 2021. In Navarre, however, the number of people cared for in the last year was 503, compared to the previous year.
However, the Spanish Observatory of the Unit says that waiting lists have been increased in Navarre. The Ertzaintza has identified 218 more people in dependency and waiting for care, a total of 1,019. In addition, the pace of care is slow: if the current speed remains the same, it would take more than six years to lower the waiting list.
