The King's House has reported that Juan Carlos I moved to the United Arab Emirates on 3 August and is currently staying in the country. The king emeritus himself would have informed the Royal House of Spain of its location, according to the same sources.

Since the king emeritus brought out his decision to reside outside Spain, there has been no official explanation of his location. Without further ado, the Royal House announced that it would not give details of the trip, as it was a “personal decision of the king emeritus”. The Government of Spain, for its part, has also maintained absolute silence on the subject. However, the main hypothesis was that the Spanish media went to the Dominican Republic, supposedly based on false leaks.

The prosecutors’ offices in Switzerland and Spain accuse the citizen of corruption for the funds he could have in tax havens and for tax fraud. The Swiss prosecution seized him all the accounts and opened a secret case in which he was charged with a money-laundering offence. At the moment, however, the king emeritus of Spain is not under investigation.

The only investigation that remains open is to determine whether the king emeritus has committed any crime after he has abdicated and not been acquitted. The competence to carry out this investigation lies with the State High Court of Justice, but the attitude shown so far indicates that the Supreme does not appear to be in a determination.
