“On a historic day for the people of Maeztu, demands were heard throughout the journey to curb the settlements of the wind power plants to produce energy,” said the organizers of the mobilization. They call on the Mayor of Arraia Maeztu to oppose the two wind power plants planned in the Iturrieta and Azazeta Mountains and “defend the environmentally protected natural territory”.

They have reminded the political leaders of the Basque Government and the Council of Álava that they have responsibilities in the construction of wind power plants in the Álava Mountains. They have also denounced that administrative irregularities are being carried out so that the institutions can make progress.

Renewables yes, but not so

“Renewable energy yes, but not so. Renewables must be an ally of biodiversity conservation. The energy transition and biodiversity are an inseparable binomial and, therefore, sacrificing the latter in order to achieve the former is dangerous and absolutely irresponsible,” says the Arabako Mendia Aske association.
