The wind power plant project will affect several Álava Mountains. The Arabako Mendia Aske platform has organized up to October six marches in these areas to demand the paralysis of the construction plans of the area. The second march will take place from Axkoeta (Ribera Alta) and Jokano (Kuartango), to the top of the Montemayor in the Sierra de Arkamu.

In addition to its intention to “publicize the threatened natural heritage”, the association wants to show that “companies and authorities do not respect the figures that protect natural spaces”. Arkamu is a Special Conservation Area (ZEC) which, despite the ban on the installation of wind turbines, is the third time that the construction of a wind power plant in the area is requested.

"In the case of our rulers, it seems that the interests of private companies are above the interests of the community," the Arabako Mendia association explained. In addition, they have denounced that companies will put pressure, repeating the request as many times as necessary "until the answer is affirmative". They will not take into account the natural value of the spaces.

In fact, Mount Arkamu is a natural protected area of the Natura 2000 network, described as of scientific and/or natural value, with habitats catalogued of interest. It contains several species of protected animals: the critical labeled area of the white alimoche and the area of necrophagous birds of community interest.

March of 24 July

The tour starts at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, from two departure points: Axkoeta (Ribera Alta) and Jokano (Kuartango). The first is a journey of eleven kilometers and the second, of eight kilometers. About two hours, the two marches will gather in the skirts of Mount Kotorrillo and begin the ascension to Mount Montemayor. There, they will have a lunch, and then they have a little act prepared. At the top of Montemayor, Labraza’s representatives will pick up the witness in the form of a stick they will carry.

This witness will go hand in hand on six marches to be held until October. After his first tour of Iturrieta on 3 July, Axkoeta and Jokano have turned around and the third march, on 14 August, will be held in Labraza. On 11 September they will meet in Azazeta, on 25 in Cantoblanco and on 16 October in Arlaba. On 23 October, they convened a demonstration in Vitoria-Gasteiz under the slogan 'Entesku dago'.
