The new Environment Deputy of Álava, Amaia Barredo, is researched together with the Director of Environmental Quality, Javier Agirre. The investigation responds to the complaint of the environmental platform Larramendiko Arnasa. Valogreene Paper wants to put in Bergara a factory that collects waste from the waste paper and burns it with pyrolysis, and the platform denounces the construction of an incinerator. The Bergara City Council initially authorised the project but rejected it, claiming that the company had made significant changes. However, the Basque Government authorized the project without taking into account the municipal decision. The public platform believes that in the face of the City Hall’s negative report the Government should archive the project. ARGIA interviewed Piter Encinas, a member of Larramendi's Arnasa in May 2022.

The Prosecutor’s Office and the Ethics Committee of the Basque Government are investigating the case. The court has not yet taken a decision on the complaint. Administrative prevarication does not involve prison sanctions, but dismissal and disqualification. It knowingly means that unfair decisions have been made, but not deviations from public money.

Sponsorship of the Deputy General

Elkarrekin Araba, in the General Boards, has requested the “urgent” appearance of the General Deputy of Álava, Ramiro González, to explain the appointment of Barredo. "These are serious accusations of prevarication over an environmental project, and now it is the key. If the accusation were true, it would be clear that it is not able to hold a public office, but less in environmental terms," said spokesman David Rodríguez.

Gonzalez says he is “fully convinced” that the complaint will be filed and that he “trusts” in Barredo.
