The Council authorizes the hunting of the last wolf of Álava
  • The Provincial Council of Álava has granted the farmers of the mountains a fourteen day permit to hunt for the only wolf that lives in Álava, according to reports by Ekologistak Martxan and Euskal Otsoa Taldea. Both movements were involved in over 105,000 signatures demanding that the Algerian wolf not dare to murder the young woman.

According to Ekologistak Martxan, the Representative has sent the letter to the farmers of Gibijo, who are in the Alavesa mountains. Farmers complain that in recent months the wolf has caused significant damage to their animals. In 2019, more than 200 animals have reportedly been killed or injured by wolves at different points. Before there were two wolves in Álava, now there is only one left.

The Provincial Council of Álava said that, before hunting the wolf, preventive measures had to be taken, but ecologists say that this has not been done. “The Council has lost all credibility on issues such as the conservation of the environment and biodiversity.”
