As in other neighborhoods, in the Rochapea the neighbors have also joined the betting houses, and on this occasion they have taken a step further and created a platform between 19 collectives.
In this neighborhood there are already five betting houses, and another is already on license. The platform has put its rejection on the table and has denounced that it is not "chance" that spreads in a working neighborhood and in a living environment.
The owners and institutions of the betting houses have been responsible for them and have encouraged neighbours and neighbours to face them collectively: “Let us be neighbours and neighbours, who manage to close their doors; we can tackle this scourge collectively.” They have pointed out that they believe in another type of leisure, “made from the neighborhood and for the neighbors, alternative, critical, creative, inclusive, feminist, healthy…”.
For their part, they have asked the Administration not to grant more licenses to open betting houses, to look for all the options to revoke the licenses granted, to withdraw advertising in favor of betting, to create a comprehensive plan to avoid gambling dependency and to work education in a healthy leisure.
The first two steps of the platform’s journey will be a talk and a focus against betting. The talk will be given by members of the Aralar association, on Wednesday, at 19:30 pm, in the sports club of the swimming pool. Next Monday, Day 16, a concentration will be held in Oblates at 20:00 hours.
Finally, on Tuesday afternoon, a platform will be presented at 19:00 in the Plazara center that brings together the platforms against the betting houses of several districts of the Comarca.
