The main features of the US multinational company Apple Inc. are the design of electronic products and software, and its corresponding online services. However, the company has decided that in September its staff must return to the trades and put an end to the tendency to work from home. There are workers who disagree, who prefer to work from home and who are “happier and more productive” than in office.
Blind is a professional community where accredited staff hold anonymous conversations about the challenges of their working life. It contains several publications on teleworking (WFH, Work From Home), some against returning to the office and others in favour.
According to El Diario, several tech companies are abandoning teleworking, such as Google, Facebook, Amazon or Microsoft. But they have not done so as Apple has done, that is, they have not forced it in a general way, but have left it to the head of each group to decide how to organise each department.
However, other technology companies already have totally biased teleworking and their employees are in trades. Tesla is one of them. The head of the company, Elon Ms, bought the Twitter social network and in June forced its employees to return to their trades. “Teleworking is no longer acceptable,” he says that all workers must work in the trade “except in particularly exceptional cases”. If not, i.e. not doing the work in person, the company understands that the worker has quit the job.
