In a January 11 car, the National Court has applied Article 104.4, Grade 3, in relation to the state of health of Antton Troitiño, granting him parole. According to the car, Troitiño suffers from “a very serious and incurable disease, which can only be treated with palliative measures, so that his stay in prison can hinder his treatment”.
According to ETXERAT, "the origin of the situation of the prisoner in Donostia is the extreme conditions suffered in prison and the long penalties suffered by Basque prisoners. Once again, we call for the immediate release of seriously ill prisoners."
Troitiño served 24 years in prison and, after serving his full sentence, left Huelva prison in 2011, where he served his sentence in 2010. He was subsequently arrested again in London and extradited to Spain in 2017, where he is currently serving a six-year prison sentence.
The General Secretariat of Penitentiary Institutions announced last October that it will transfer Troitiño to Soria prison, in the context of the movements and rapprochement of Basque political prisoners driven by the Spanish Government.
