This morning (January 18) several students who have been organizing and working for the past months under the motto “Gora ikason borroka!” have met at the Boulevard de Donostia-San Sebastián kiosk. They have come from different points of Euskal Herria: From Amurrio, Bilbao, Pamplona, Oiartzun, Hendaia... On 12 October last, in Vitoria-Gasteiz, the call for students to strike for their own Basque educational system was presented on 28 November and today they wanted to announce a new step: “We’re going to create an agent that brings with it a new form of organization and struggle.”
As they have explained, they started working at the beginning of the course. Students from eleven educational centers in Euskal Herria started meeting: “We have come together to question the current educational system and together build a path for a new one, reaching assemblies of more than 150 students.” Acting from local realities, the challenge has been posed to break the student struggle at the national level.
In fact, students point out that they start from a void. They have identified the need to “stack” the student movement and have come to the conclusion that it is time to create new tools.
"Loading"
In recent months, students have stated that they have fought together, shared ideas and objectives and have been thinking about future projects. In this process, they have highlighted the presence of participation and horizontality. On this occasion, however, they considered it necessary to articulate and influence the struggles for a “proper and redundant educational system” in the Basque Country. To this end, they considered it essential to create an agent and have therefore decided “to open a new phase that will start this new form of organization”.
To do so, they have created a process called "Loading." The new process will be opened from centre to centre so that it is given as broadly and horizontally as possible. The instrument will be a booklet that will propose debates and help to define the bases of the new subject of students. “Collecting the contributions of most of the students, we are going to create a new tractor student who struggles for our educational model.” The leaflet will have three main sections: the evolution of the student movement and the reflection on the political situation; the definition of the details of the new student strategy and, finally, the ideological foundations and the organizational model of the new subject.
