Ana Urkiza, elected President of Eusko Ikaskuntza
  • On Saturday, the General Assembly of Eusko Ikaskuntza was held in Donostia, in which Ana Urkiza Ibaibarriaga was appointed president of the institution. It is the eighth person who has taken office in 102 years of history and the first woman. He replaces Iñaki Dorronsoro.

The following seats on the Governing Council are also ratified: Asier Etxenike (Álava Counsellor), Zelai Nikolas (de Bizkaia), Manu Olariaga (de Gipuzkoa), Isabel Elizalde (de Navarra) and Eguzki Urteaga (de Iparralde) were in charge of opening the day.

After being elected, Ana Urkiza thanked her for her trust and wanted to start a new stage, that of the XVIII Basque Study Congress held in Oñati in November 2018. With the same words he used at the end of Congress: "Eusko Ikaskuntza is here, 100 years after its creation, with ideas and proposals, wanting to continue working in the service of Euskal Herria (...) creating knowledge, to understand our current challenges and give answers".

The new president of Eusko Ikaskuntza has stated that he assumes with enthusiasm the responsibility, taking into account the teamwork and the different contributions, knowledge, opinions and sensitivities offered by Eusko Ikaskuntza.

The work programme for the period 2020-2024, endorsed by the majority of the assembly, aims to place Eusko Ikaskuntza as the main reference point for developing a popular strategy that involves the society and institutions of Euskal Herria.

Born in Ondarroa in 1969, he works in the financial institution Bankoa Credit agricole in the field of communication, training and the Basque Country, and has written numerous books of literature, mainly of stories. He writes articles in various media, including Argia.
