The Askatasuna organisation has today offered a press conference in Vitoria-Gasteiz to present Amnesty Day 2024. The hearing states that ‘the militants persecuted for their election and political commitment are becoming more and more’ and ‘the ones reprimanded for struggles driven by precarious living conditions’.

Faced with this, they need to ‘organise the fight against harassment’: at the level of political organisation, at the ideological level, including in political resources. In order to bring together militants from different places in Euskal Herria, to reflect on repression, to discuss and to take steps towards overcoming harassment, they have claimed that Amnesty Days are a ‘milestone’.

Amnesty Day this year, 15 June in Vitoria-Gasteiz

On the one hand, they organised a round table ‘in order to analyse the legal persecution being carried by the French and Spanish states against political militancy’. The bureau will be attended by counsel from the collective AKAB Aratz Estonba, Garazi Aduriz, member of 14 July and Julen Balda, member of the Activities Coordinator.

On the other hand, they will analyze the role of the police in capitalist society. Its objective is to analyze the origin of the police, its evolution and the role it plays today, as well as the struggles and strategies to follow. To do this, he will be attended by researcher Paul Rocher, police expert.

In addition, in the afternoon they convened a demonstration under the motto “Before repression, all amnesty”. 'Only the implementation of amnesty will overcome the repression suffered by Basque Public Worker. Amnesty, in addition to demanding the freedom of political prisoners, is a demand for the legitimacy of the struggle of the Basque Working People.

Finally, they invite to participate in the press conference on Amnesty Day, 'to deepen the fight against repression and to continue to create the political conditions necessary to respond to it'.
