As the Federation of Ikastolas reported in a statement, "to our surprise we have seen that most of the Ikastolas of Hego Euskal Herria appear on the list of Amazon centers. The list has been made up of Amazon itself, which databases extracted from which you can access them. But that does not mean that these centres and ikastolas have joined the campaign, because it is the centre that has to give the approval for it. If the center doesn't want to appear on that list, you should contact Amazon to delete it."
The association is also considering denouncing the distributing and marketing company and requiring Amazon to remove the names of all the ikastolas from the campaign. According to the association, "it is not fair that these donations, which have a purely commercial purpose, should be received by the ikastolas. The campaign, the aim of which is to encourage purchases on this platform, directly affects the shops of our peoples and, consequently, the lives of the towns and neighbourhoods. Both these types of campaigns and platforms pose a threat to the character of the ikastolas. Because the ikastolas we want to make a country and work with the agents of towns and neighborhoods and promote mutual care. Because we need close references for the students, families and workers that make up our community: initiatives that promote the community objective, that allow us to live in Basque, that promote intercooperation... And because platforms like Amazon are taking us in the opposite direction."
The association has also asked the administrative authorities to take action in the face of such campaigns, "first of all, we ask the Basque Government and the Government of Navarra to demand that Amazon stop using this data".
The note also makes a final reflection on the community and the sovereign technology: "We will have to reflect on how and why it needs the relationship we want to have with technology to take steps on the path of technological sovereignty," he added.
