- Lehendakari, Iñigo Urkullu, has announced that next Friday he will sign a legislative decree for parliamentary procedure. The Basque Government wishes to maintain the restrictive measures, but there are legal doubts as to the possibility of such measures being adopted.
In statements to journalists, lehendakari, Iñigo Urkullu, announced on Monday that if the Spanish Government raises the state of alarm next Friday it will adopt a law decree with the aim of keeping the main rights cuts in force. The Government of Sánchez maintains its intention to repeal the state of alarm on 9 May, and the government decree would enter into force on 10 May. The decree would remain in force within four to six weeks, as explained by lehendakari.
Legal doubts
There are legal doubts as to whether, without the alarm decree, communities have the right to approve the main cutting measures currently in force, mainly curfew, perimeter closures and the prohibition of regrouping from a certain amount. Urkullu has stated that the Basque Government will contrast with the judges before approving the royal decree law regulating the law.
