Father Mari, embarked on the Mediterranean Sea, 20 kilometres from the Sicilian coast, has rescued 112 migrants from different countries. However, the authorities have not given them permission to land in a safe port, and to change it, many rescued people have begun a hunger strike. The aim is to introduce pressure so that they can dock as soon as possible. Father Mari, with capacity for 100 people, has warned that some are now overnight on the ground; some migrants have been on board for six days waiting for them to land.

They also report that the situation inside the boat is “increasingly serious” and that tensions and clashes between rescued people are increasing. In fact, four rescues have received people from different countries and cultures, including Ethiopia, Libya, Morocco and Eritrea. They call on the authorities to authorise berthing in a safe place, first.
