The Italian authorities denounce the ship Aita Mari of the NGO Salvamento Marítima Humanitarian (SMH) for "violating maritime safety regulations". According to EITB Media, the complaint is against the captain and may be due to the transport of more people than authorized.
“It is clear to us that it is an attempt to criminalise the humanitarian aid of the civilian fleet in the Mediterranean,” SMH members say on the complaint. They explain that the association’s lawyers are already working.
The coastguards are joining forces with Captain Father Mari Simon Vidal to conduct a study on the sanitary conditions of the ship, after leaving the 172 migrants in the port of Salero. In the same port of Salero, prefect Giancarlo Conticchio explained that some of the migrants will be received in the province of Salerno and the rest in other provinces of the region of Campania.
