A group of Lezo residents denounce that air pollution is "unsustainable"
  • They have defended the person who, two weeks ago, threw the ashes at the main leaders in Port of Pasaia, saying that this ash is a "tiny" part that citizens devour every day. On Saturday they concentrated in front of the City Hall of Lezo and a collection of signatures has been initiated to request the renewal of the agreement.

The political representatives of Gipuzkoa, the Basque Government and the Government of Spain were present on 21 November in the neighborhoods of Trintxerpe and Herrera, in the bay of Pasaia, at the opening of the catwalk that joins them. A citizen threw his ashes – spread in cement – along with politicians to denounce the pollution they suffer every day.

Lezo's neighbours have explained that the president of the Port Authority, Félix Garciandia, attacked the citizen "violently". The images show that Garciandia kicks the entrepreneur. Once in place, the security officers stopped the man by force and was arrested by the Ertzaintza. In this regard, they considered the attitude of Garciandia, to which they had to resign, to be "unacceptable".

Lezo’s group of neighbors says that the passage is necessary for citizenship, but that the main objective is the “integral regeneration” of Pasaia Bay. They claim that it is "impossible" to suffer this type of contamination on a daily basis. On Saturday, therefore, they declared their discomfort and began collecting signatures. They have asked the authorities to "listen" to the residents of the area affected by the fire.
