The camp against the TAV that has been organized in Atxondo this Sunday has been presented at a public hearing in Bilbao. The spokesmen recalled that in 1989 the authorities presented the “first draft” of the Greek Basque Y, and that they are still trying to carry it out, “crossing the mountains of our people and surrounding us with our own cement”. AHT Gelditu Elkarlana was created in 1992 thanks to the collaboration of several people and movements, who have claimed that they also continue to work, among other things, in the organization of the “resistance” in Atxondo.
They recalled that a popular consultation on the APR was held in 2007 and that the citizens’ vote was quite the opposite.” The result has not been respected, but Atxondo’s neighbours have long avoided “introducing machines” by dealing with the “illegalities” of the works in the courts. However, they have been concerned because, taking advantage of the “passive” attitude of the City Hall, they believe that they want to end the works in a “fast” way. In this regard, they have recalled what happened in Abadiño and Elorrio.
Necessity and opportunity of the stop
The camp organizers have claimed that the TAV can be paralyzed and that today more than ever it is necessary to stop it: “TAV is a suicidal project. If before the pandemic its viability was at risk, after the pandemic it is unacceptable for public money to be spent on meaningless macro-projects.” They have stressed that the project is built around 30% and that we are still in time to build life models and towns that put life at the centre.
Dozens of activities and national demonstration
The specific programme will be announced this week by the organization, but at a press conference they have advanced that these are shows, children's activities or informative talks. On 31 July, in the afternoon, a demonstration against the TAV will leave Atxondo. Approaching the camp they have invited the neighbors to fill with “illusion and desire the campas of Atxondo”. To facilitate the organization, they request that the name be provided on the camp ' s website as soon as possible, remembering that the capacity will be limited.
