Osakidetza will launch this year’s Trans Child Care Service
  • In the debate on changes in trans-Basque law, the government has announced that before the end of 2022 Osakidetza will launch the transsexual care service, initially in Gipuzkoa and Bizkaia, and targeting minors. On the other hand, they report that the number of minors who have applied for the sexual identity card has increased considerably over the past five years.

Clinical psychologists experts in Osakidetza, Sexology and Attention to Gender Identity will start their journey in Gipuzkoa and Bizkaia and then open their doors to Álava. The service also aims to be later also for adults, whose main objective will be psychological and affective care.

The reform of the trans law of the CAV in 2012 is being curtailed by the political parties and the Deputy Health Advisor has been announced in that committee. In 2019, the law had its first reform and decriminalized transsexuality. On this occasion, it is proposed to take into account the opinion of minors and to participate in the decisions of doctors.

Sexual Identity Recognition Document

Since 2016, a transitional document for sexual identity can be requested at the CAPV. That is, a document that recognizes their sexual identity during the final change of sexual identity in the civil registry. On its return, the government has provided data: a total of 331 transgender people have requested the document between 2016-2021, more than half of them minors. In addition, the demand for minors has grown considerably: In 2016 there were no minors who applied, more than 60 of the 100 applications made in 2021 have been minors.
