Thousands of people rose on Saturday at 650 cimes in Euskal Herria to ask the Basque prisoners and exiles to return home. In the context of the dynamic Sare and Bake Bideak Izan Bidea, they have organized the climb of the mountains to denounce the current "unjust" penitentiary policy and show their willingness to "walk towards coexistence and peace".
In Sare’s view, as far as Basque prisoners and the emergency prison policy are concerned, “steps forward” are being taken, and we are experiencing a moment of change: “The rapprochement of Basque prisoners is beginning to take place; although there has not yet been a strong movement to end the policy of withdrawal, we have begun to shorten distances by dribbling. Also in terms of the progression of the degrees, although very little by little, new doors have begun to open”. Although it is not “fundamental” or “root”, they believe that it is an opportunity that must be seized and that it can serve to open new paths.
Despite being “tantaka”, they called to go out into the street to reclaim the progress that had been made: “It is more important than ever that we make visible on the street our desire for solution and to carry out the process back home of the prisoners, to make visible what the majority will is. Without that momentum, you can never go home.”
“Solution. The road to the house of the prisoners and escapes. The road to coexistence and peace. That is the path that all of us who have come together here have taken.” In addition, they have encouraged people to move and continue with the 'Izan Bidea' initiative, to put an end to injustice. The aim of the initiative is to travel three million kilometres and have already reached a million kilometres away. Through this Saturday’s initiative, an additional 350,000 kilometres have been travelled.
