Journalist Pablo González, a prisoner in Poland, has spent 500 days. Family members repeatedly denounce the authorities’ lack of concrete response. However, they stress that they will continue to report on the case, because they believe that freedom of the press is a “fundamental right” of any democracy.

When almost seventeen months have passed, they say that the situation remains “the same”, “without evidence” of the accusations they make. They stress that González’s rights are being “violated” because their children have not had the opportunity to talk to him, either by visits or by mobiles. For the time being, he has had only two visits, all with great “security and vigilance” of the jailers.

Families have called on the international community, Governments, human rights actors and all those who have the capacity to influence the situation: “You have to put pressure on the Polish authorities and fight for Paul’s rights to be fulfilled.”

Final actions

They have recently taken several steps to report on González's situation and to demand his freedom. Her relatives tested the first stage of the Tour de France to spread her claims.

On 29 June they met in Madrid to demand the freedom of the journalist.

On 9 June, the Socialist Council Busturialdea organized a full day programme to boost the journalist's economic momentum.
