Best Film, Best Direction, Best Screenplay, Benito Ansola and EITB Public Prize

The award for the best film has been for Jone Arriola’s film “Dena asmatuta dago” (Everything is invented). The judges have stated that: “It’s a job that shows us that many things fit in a small bathtub. Organic, natural and above all fresh film. We are presented with a credible and tender dialogue that seems to be devoid of script, and that requires cohesion and a great deal of prior work between the actors and the director. We also want to emphasize the interpretation of the actors, who are at all times where they must be”, so for him is 47. Golden Goose of the Basque Country Zine Bilera and prize of 3,000 euros.

Maddi Barbe’s award for the best direction has been for “Wings/Earth”. The judges highlight the following: “A movie with its own language. The director's touch is clean. By translating the poem that tells the film, the meaning of the words lies in a new field: the world of the director.” For him 1,600 euros and the Silver Goose.

The award for the best script has been for “Ximinoa” by Itziar Leemans, who has been awarded the Goya. According to the judges: “It portrays the current duration of a class problem from a female perspective. The judges recall the eloquent use of silences and the extremely expressive treatment of spaces and how these bodies relate to them.” For him 1,600 euros and the Silver Goose.

The Benito Ansola Prize was for the film “Larramendi” by Daniel Nespereira and Zihara Etxeberria. The judges highlight that: “Because it’s a curious story and it has interesting visual effects. The authors note the desire to experiment and the judges encourage them to continue in it”. The winner of this prize must be from Fiestas since 2000. The winners of this prize have received a Silver Goose and a cash prize of 1,000 euros.

The Special Mention of the Jury was for “Puzzles, the palace of rape” by Kote Camacho. Despite not having received any prize, the jury wanted to make a special mention. In his words, “The case we are working on in the film is a terrible case, which has been surrounded by silence, and which still exists. That is why it is so necessary to disseminate this type of work so that the protagonists have a space to express themselves and for society to listen to them”.

Finally, through the votes cast throughout the week, we were able to get to know the winner of the EITB public prize. Viewers have decided with their votes that the winner is “Puzzles, Palace of Rape” by Kote Camacho, with an average of 4.19 points out of 5. Therefore, for him a Silver Goose and a prize of 750 euros.

The view of the Basque Cinema: Itziar Ituño

In the same act, we wanted to pay tribute to the Basque actress Itziar Ituño with the presence of the Gaze at the Basque Cinema, with the objective of paying tribute to the figure and initiatives of the Basque film. Euskal Zine bilera, for his part, will look at an agent and a person who has made a special contribution to the Basque audiovisual sector. In particular, the goal is to give well-deserved recognition to a universal actor who has begun his career in Euskera, valuing the influence he has had on the audiovisual and Euskera throughout his career. This year’s Basque Film Gaze will fall on Itziar Ituño, a Basque actress and Euskaltzale who has gone through the borders of Basque territory, language and culture.
