The Basque Government allocates EUR 43.5 million to social emergency aid
  • The lehendakari of the Basque Government, Iñigo Urkullu, has appeared before the media in Bilbao. On the social and labour policy measures that have been adopted, the controls that will intensify the holidays of Easter and the Return to Normal Plan that they have in their hands.

Within the €1,025 million fund planned to deal with covid-19, it has been decided to allocate an additional €16 million to Social Emergency Aid. In this way, a total of EUR 43.5 million will be earmarked to enable "many families to improve their living conditions", Urkullu explained. It has also announced a fund of EUR 10 million to deal with situations of exclusion and poverty in the Basque Country.

On the other hand, lehendakari has announced that with EUR 76 million it will promote three other aid programmes: aid for self-employed persons through Lanbide, youth guarantee scheme and aid for conciliation.

Easter, at home

He calls to stay at home during the following public holidays: “We have to keep all the work we have done. We’re on the right track.” The Department of Security will arrange a device to prevent them from moving to the second residences of the Basque Country.

Lehendakari has been in favour of prolonging isolation. However, he has asked the Spanish Government President Pedro Sánchez to be more flexible "to allow certain activities to take place".

Finally, he explained that work is under way on the Return to Normality Plan, which should be gradually implemented. “At this stage it is essential to maintain interinstitutional collaboration both at the state level with the Central Government and at the regional level with the foreign ministers and the municipalities”
