The company Solaria contacted the owners of the lands of Ribabellosa and Quintanilla de Ribera Baja before summer to build a park of 200,000 solar panels on 350 hectares between both locations. According to them, the energy needed to supply 28,000 households would be produced.

It would be the second largest project in Álava, Bizkaia and Gipuzkoa. The largest project is Ekienea, located in Ribera Baja, just two kilometers from Ribabellosa. The solar plate park located in Arrazua-Ubarrundia is also managed by Solaria.

Solaria, once the administrative authorizations of the Provincial Council of Álava and the Basque Government were obtained, began the process of buying land from the land owners. The draft contracts were made available to the public and last Saturday a popular assembly was held to discuss and decide on the signing of the agreement with the company. According to El Correo, it was a "narrow vote," but the refusal was imposed.
