On 23 June, the judgment of the trial against Iker Gómez, charged with murder, was made public. The young person has been sentenced to pay a fine of EUR 3,120 for "messages exceeding the right to freedom of expression".

Gómez was tried last Wednesday at the Provincial Court of Álava (Álava) for an alleged crime of "insult" for his messages on the Twitter social network against the police forces. The tweets that have led to the courts are messages related to the Alde Hemendik movement, which claimed the departure of the armed forces of the Spanish State of Euskal Herria. He has also been condemned for showing his support for the young people of Alsasua and for denouncing police violence against them.

Response

Gómez has announced his intention to appeal the resolution, and yet, if he had to pay the fine, he will put "all the machinery" to raise funds and report the case with his team of lawyers.
