24. Hatortxu Rock, virtual and "more needed than ever"
  • The organization has stressed that this year's Hatortxu Rock is "more necessary than ever" because the situation of Basque political prisoners and their families has worsened even further. Hatortxu Rock's 24th edition adapts to the pandemic situation. In the current situation, Villava (Navarra) cannot become a festive and vindictive atmosphere every year. After 21 years, the 24th edition of the Hatortxu Rock is held, but in a virtual way.

The reason for this musical festival is not just to gamble on culture. The festival has remained convinced that solidarity with prisoners is more necessary than ever. Hence the motto: -More than ever.

The organization wanted to make it known that the COVID-19 pandemic has further worsened the situation of Basque prisoners and their families. Indeed, among other measures, the number of visits to prisons in the Basque Country has been reduced. Relatives of political prisoners suffering from dispersion earn the main income to meet economic expenses through events such as the Hatortxu Rock, which in the last year have not had such a massive character.

Three different scenes

As usual, the Hatortxu Rock will be held on Saturday, December 26, a meeting attended by many artists. Aitor Agirrezabal, a member of the organization, has acknowledged that "we believe that this year we offer something different, it is worth it."

The organization has announced that the show will last for an hour and will be distributed in three sections and in several scenes. In the first performance, musicians María Antunez, Josu Erbiti, Joseba San Sebastian and Gorka Pastor will perform themes from well-known Basque groups, and will share stage with several Basque musicians: Xabi Solano, Zaloa Urain, Tomas Lizarazu, Nerea Urbizu, Claudia Rodríguez, Lorena aisa, Alberto Sanzol, Ivan Carmona, Francis Díez, Idoia Tapia, Sara Zozaia, Lide Hernando, Alex Sardui and the Hutsun group. Secondly, the Zetak, Anesthesia, Herril, Koban and Little Martin Selektah & Juantxo Arakama & Nikotina groups will present the new work done in the last year. And in the third part, actress Erika Olaizola and filmmaker Lander Garro will offer a play that will deal with jail and dispersal.

Tickets for the festival www.hatortxurock.eus are for sale on the festival website at a price of 12 euros. This is the main way to make the contribution, but in the store of the same website you will also be able to buy the new products you want.

Preparation work

As usual, hundreds of volunteers are helping to advance the 24 edition of the Behobia-San Sebastián. In the annual Hatortxu Rock, 700 volunteers have been counted. Common work and solidarity are the foundation of the festival.
