When we woke up on February 8, 2024, you were hugging the dinosaur.
  • There are people who "embrace" capitalism without realizing that the problem is in the same system; in the constant search for growth on a limited planet. All forms of intensive energy production are being swallowed up in the world.

On the flysch of Algorri, in Zumaia, we can see a dark layer of a few centimeters, composed primarily of irides. This material is common in the universe, but scarce on Earth. It comes from the ashes that spread into the atmosphere 65 million years ago, after a meteorite hit the Yucatan area. The sky was covered with this cosmic dust for several years, which reduced heat and polluted the atmosphere. This meant the extinction of about 70 percent of plant and animal species, including dinosaurs that until then dominated the planet.

These dramatic changes in both of these remain recorded in fossils and help geologists mark the end of one geological era and the beginning of another. It went from the Mesozoic era to the Cenozoic era, where mammals and, among them, primates began to progress.

In addition to the dinosaur era, it was during the Mesozoic Era that oil emerged, which in the last 100 years has allowed a part of humanity to live as "gods."

In addition to the dinosaur era, oil emerged largely in the Mesozoic Era, which in the last 100 years has allowed a part of humanity to live as "gods." However, we are depleting those reserves and depriving future generations of this strong and irreplaceable resource.

Today, as the activity of "developed" societies leads to the disappearance of many species, many scientists think that we are entering a new era. This new time has been called Anthropocene. A revealing fact of this time is that recently the weight of all things built by human beings has exceeded the combined weight of all living beings on the planet.

It does not seem that the future is going very well and the solutions put forward from "green capitalism" are only a way to flee to the abyss.

It does not seem that the future is going very well, and the solutions put forward from "green capitalism" are only a way to flee to the abyss. It is not a question of continuing to occupy more and more land with mega-projects of sun, wind, prey, highways, airports and high-speed trains, or of continuing to produce millions of plastic items as we exhaust resources and energy.

There are people who "embrace" capitalism without realizing that the problem is in the same system; in the constant search for growth on a limited planet. All forms of intensive energy production are being swallowed up in the world.

The solution is to reduce the consumption of materials and energy (the greenest energy is the energy that is not consumed). The answers are growth and change to another social economic model.

Iberdrola does not matter how megaprojects are carried out on the coast of Brittany or in the Basque Country, the environmental damage is the same and the waste of resources. Iberdrola's only love is money.

Repsol refuses to install the largest solar megaproject to be built in Peralta

This weekend we learned that the company refused to install the largest solar project to be built in Peralta (Euskal Herria) because it is not accountable, electricity is too cheap. And, like Iberdrola, all the great oligopolies that control energy resources worldwide – Repsol, Solaria, Statkraft – have no homeland; their flag is the symbol of money, $/€.

The occupation of our nearby lands will not make us more independent of anything or anyone and will not save the life of the planet.

It's time to leave behind the era of "capitalism."

The real solution lies in the construction of a new socio-economic model that, instead of valuing property of things, seeks happiness and harmony with the Theme. It is time to leave behind the era of "central capitalism". When one day you wake up, the dinosaur will no longer be there, Mr Otero.
