According to the media Naiz, the Atlantic Pyrenees Prefeta, Julien Charles, has confirmed that from 30 October the Avenue Bridge, the Alduedas Pass and the collates of Larrain and Izpegi will open. These steps have been closed since January 2021 and Charles points out that security challenges are compatible with the reopening of those steps: “Police controls will follow.”

He announced the opening of the meeting with representatives of the media in Baiona. He points out that the decision is “reassuring news” for people living in neighboring villages, as they often had to make “long journeys” “on other roads”. However, it confirms the continuity of the control devices: “For migrants, the situation will not change.”

On the other hand, he stressed that “controls have been stepped up” over the border, due to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. However, he notes that although it is a “special context”, “the opening of the four steps “is not at stake”.
