Together with the presentation of signatures, a dozen members of the Tartanga Berdea platform appeared to express their firm intention to end the urban project they intend to carry out in the green area annexed to the sports club: "After several mobilizations to show the social rejection of the project, we decided to take a step forward in the basic democratic exercise that the institutions had launched long ago."
In this sense, to bring the matter to the municipal plenary, they needed at least 10% support from the Erandio census, so in recent months, signatures from neighbors over 18 years old have been collected. In the end, thanks to the work of dozens of volunteers, they have managed to add 2,009 signatures "overcoming the target set".
The popular initiative is now being transferred to the plenary and the parties will vote in favour of the immediate cessation of the construction project and of the popular consultation on the future of Tartanga. However, platform members said the initiative would only be supported by EH Bildu and "surely" Elkarrekin Podemos.
However, the members of the platform clearly highlighted their objective: "We are committed to maintaining and improving the green and public spaces, but we are not afraid to be consulted and to exercise democracy about it". They also indicated that they did not rely on the alternative of the other green area presented by the City Hall.
The cause of Tartanga began in 2007, when the construction company Abaroa S.A. had to evict 66 homes for the damage caused. After a long process, in 2016, the municipal government hosted by the PNV and PSE parties announced the project of building 400 homes in the public green recreational area located in the center of Altzaga, in order to relocate the affected people, on the one hand, and face the damages caused by the company.
Faced with this project, several Erandio decided to complete the popular initiative Tartanga Berdea "to denounce the theft of public land and defend our green space".
