  • Ikastola Salbatore Mitxelena will pay a total of 140,000 euros for exceeding the registration limit imposed by the Basque Government in Child Education, but will keep the eight students as a result of the negotiations. As the ikastola explained in her appearance, the Department of Education defined the last course for the first time the vulnerability index and established new criteria of baremation as a consequence of the new Education Act. According to the plan established until then, the ikastola would have 3 classrooms in Early Childhood Education 2, but the Basque Government reduced the award from three to two, although in the locality there were 20 more children than the previous course. The Basque Government was asked for 3 classrooms and said no. "Does it not affect the Basque Government's view that from one course to another there are 20 more children in the village? they have criticized since the ikastola.

With a limit of 50 students, 55 families chose ikastola, “and from that moment an endless series of complaints and allegations began”. The Ikastola recalled the order of 2022 that the number of final pupils will be adjusted and adjusted according to the total number of applications from those who have chosen the centre as the first option. “Why hasn’t this number been adjusted for us?”

Open doors

In spite of this, the educational community of Salbatore Mitxelena decided “to open the doors to anyone who would like to be part of the project” and therefore to keep these families in the ikastola. This course has been the same and, in this case, 58 families have chosen the ikastola. They have reported that the Department of Education has carried out "tough" inspections, which have led them to punish financially and to keep families in the ikastola during the negotiations.

To deal with the fine, a series of actions will be launched in the Basque Country. Among other things, they have opened a current account for voluntary contributions: ES73 2095 5212 1091 2486 7983.

For the future, ikastola expects that the problem can be repeated with the registration limit imposed on it, “and considerably weakens the ikastola of the future”.
