- On Wednesday, the National Police arrested 11 people in Catalonia, including the mayor of Celrá, Dani Cornellà, and the mayor of Vergés, Ignasi Sabater, both of the Cup. The operation is related to the occupation of the high-speed train lanes in Girona: This action was carried out on the occasion of the first anniversary of the referendum on 1 October 2017.
About a hundred people have concentrated before the National Police Station to denounce the operation and show solidarity with the detainees. Catalunya Ràdio has taken up the words of Sabater’s lawyer: The mayor of Verges has been arrested on charges of "public disorder", although he has not been informed of the specific facts charged to him.
As a protest against the arrests, the members of JxCat, ERC, CUP and Comuns have left the Catalan parliamentary committees, emphasizing "the democratic and political abnormality we are experiencing".
The Catalan President, Quim Torra, has also expressed his solidarity with the detainees, as well as the President of the Parlament, Roger Torrent, who has called for an end to the repression and the immediate release of the detainees.
