The defendants Ibon Meñika and Beñat Zarrabeitia have explained the dynamics against the macro-trial of Summary 11/13 at the National Hearing. In recent weeks, the defendants have referred to the relations they have maintained, their intentions for the future and the "wave of solidarity" they are receiving.
The accused have been holding meetings with social, trade union and political actors for several weeks to try to clarify the facts. As for the parties, they have met “all those who consider a new prison policy necessary” to weave “synergies and complicity”. The result of this work is expected to be achieved in September. The trade unions have also joined those prosecuted, and in this respect the fruits are already more concrete. On September 6, the trade union majority will convene mobilizations in the four capitals of Hego Euskal Herria.
The defendants have highlighted the dynamics that have been developed in the towns and neighborhoods of the defendants. They say that the solidarity of citizens begins in an "exponential" way. So far, over 2,000 people have participated in the open assemblies. Throughout the summer, and especially on 6, 7 and 8 September, many local mobilizations will take place. Over 8,200 citizens have already signed the manifesto that Jon Maia has written against the CT trial. All the initiatives are aimed at feeding the national demonstration that the defendants have convened on 14 September in Bilbao.
Also at the international level
Meñika and Zarrabeitia express their desire to disseminate the dynamics of interpellation and international relations. On the one hand, they have announced the intention to hold meetings with the social partners of the Catalan Generalitat. On the other hand, they also want to go to the newly constituted European Parliament. However, they have warned that they have difficulty in going down this road: defendants are prohibited from leaving the Spanish State, they need special permission to do so.
Economic solidarity
At the same time as political solidarity is appreciated, the accused have pointed out that greater economic solidarity is needed. The trial, which will last for three months, provides for an expenditure of EUR 340,000, according to the calculations of the Council of Gipuzkoa. Defence costs amount to EUR 236,440, transport costs to EUR 28,950 and three-month accommodation costs to EUR 72,072. A current account has been opened to receive contributions.
