Court releases on bail five men who gang raped a teenager in San Fermin
  • A Spanish court in Navarre (Basque Country) sentenced five men to nine years in prison for gang raping a teenage girl in 2016 in Iruñea, during the world-known Sanfermin celebration. Now they will be able to leave prison, after a controversial judicial decision. The bail of 6,000 euros imposed by the judge has generated outrage among the Basques.

The rapists of Sanfermin will leave prison this week.

Among the conditions that the court has placed on the group that committed the gang rape is that the five convicted will not be able to enter the Autonomous Community of Madrid (Spain), because the woman they raped lives there.

It is not the first judicial decision that has generated controversy in this case. The sentence for the five rapists that the court published in May did not consider there to have been rape or sexual crime, just "sexual abuse". The five attackers were also absolved of crimes against intimacy, and only one of them will be punished for theft.

The feminist movement of Iruñea has called a rally this Thursday at 7:00 pm to protest the judicial decision.
